Practical Caravan has endorsed what many keen load-lugging drivers already know – the Kia cee’d Sportswagon 1.6 CRDI is the “greenest” tow car on the market! 

The ‘2’ version, available from Drayton Kia in Swineshead, near Boston for £19,895 captured the Green Tow Car Award in the magazine’s annual, exhaustive testing competition. The model was described by David Motton, Tow Car Editor as being “impressively economical to buy and run as well as being a respectable tow car.”

He went on: “If you want to tow a caravan without spending a fortune on fuel, look no further. Towing a tourer weighing 85 per cent of its kerbweight the cee’d Sportswagon returned a commendable 31.6mpg – beating every other car we shortlisted.
“At the legal limit the Kia is a stable tow car and in an emergency lane-change the cee’d Sportswagon performed well, always pulling the caravan straight again, even when it stepped out of line,” he added.

About the show: 

Now in its 132nd year and organised by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, the 2016 Lincolnshire Show promises another action packed line-up with something for everyone to enjoy.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with a variety of exciting acts, classes and breath-taking performances throughout both days in the Main Ring & Countryside Ring. Over in the Show Gardens & Floral Art section you can browse and admire the beautiful blooms on display, and take the time to explore our fascinating new Aviation Zone. Then it’s time to shop at some of the 600 trade stands which will be selling everything from handbags to hot tubs, mowers to muck spreaders and combines to candles – plus much more, including of course Kia cars..

Visitors can rest their legs and jump aboard the land train to visit the cows, sheep, pigs and an array of new and traditional farm machinery.

The Food Court will be brimming with Lincolnshire produce from hog roasts and sausages to jams, pickles and cakes. And newly updated for 2016, The Lincolnshire Kitchen plays host to some of the finest food producers and chefs from across the county who will demonstrate live their delicious recipes using local produce.

For the younger audience, The Show is packed full of educational stands on food, farming and animals, not least in the Schools Challenge Area.

NEWS: United toast Pilgrim Cup success

The seventh Pilgrim Cup tournament took place over the Bank Holiday weekend at RAF College Cranwell.

A record 210 sides took part over 10 age groups ranging from under-7s through to under-16s with over 4,000 people attending the weekend in total.

A range of Football League and National League clubs, including the likes of Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Peterborough United, Norwich City, Doncaster Rovers, York City, Rochdale, Grimsby Town and Lincoln City, took part alongside European representation from Dutch side TGG Den Bosch.

Day one saw Derby County dominate the foundation ages, both winning and being runners-up in the under-7s and 9s age groups. Lincoln City beat Norwich City on penalties to win the under-11s category while Chesterfield took the under-13s honours with Lincoln City runners-up. Elsewhere, elite development side PB Soccer beat Rochdale to take the under-15s title.

Day two continued on a similar theme with both Derby County sides in the under-8s final. East Midlands neighbours Nottingham Forest took the under-10s, 12s and 14s titles beating Peterborough United, Doncaster Rovers and Rochdale respectively.

In a repeat of the under-15s tournament, PB Soccer again beat Rochdale, this time on penalties, to take the under-16s title.

Tournament organiser Lewis Thorogood commented: "This was our biggest-ever tournament we have held at this level and it was a great success.

"My thanks go to tournament sponsors Drayton Motors (Kia) along with all the staff, volunteers and referees who gave their time over the Bank Holiday weekend to make this such a success.

"Without doubt this is the biggest tournament of this kind now in the area and rivalling anything elsewhere in the country, putting elite youth development football on the map not only for Boston United but also Lincolnshire as a county."
