Kia Picanto awarded Most User-Friendly Tech by experts from Carbuyer and Alphr
Judges commended the Picanto’s straightforward interface and responsive system
The Kia Picanto has picked up the accolade for Most User-Friendly Tech at the Car Tech Awards 2017. The Car Tech Awards are judged by a panel of experts from Carbuyer and Alphr, who test the best new car technology launched over the past 12 months. Advances in technology have been a defining characteristic of new cars in recent years and have become a key feature on car buyers ‘must-have’ list.

The Picanto is the first small Kia to feature a Kia Connected Services package powered by TomTom™ and features Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration as standard with a 7" Touchscreen available in the grade ‘3’ and ‘GT-Line S’ models. Motoring Laws update reminder: Child car seat regulations

Motoring laws are constantly evolving to help keep us safer on the UK's roads. We've lined up a series of reminders for you and will publish them in this blog over the coming weeks.

As of now, the law regarding child seats has also changed to mean that the use of cushion booster seats will now be restricted to older children only.

The change in regulation means that any child under 125cm (4.1 feet) tall and less than 22kg (3.5 stone) in weight must use a child seat with a back instead of a backless booster cushion, however children must use continue to use an appropriate child seat until they are either 135cm (4.4 feet) tall or 12 years old.

The reason is that backless car seats offer far less protection in the event of a collision, particularly in the event of a side-on crash, and could end up proving fatal to younger or smaller children.

Anyone caught not using an appropriate child seat for their car will be faced with a £100 fine, however it should be noted that the new law only applies to seats which are bought after March 1st 2017.

Motoring laws update reminder: Using 'any internet device' behind the wheel

Motoring laws are constantly evolving to help keep us safer on the UK's roads. We've lined up a series of reminders for you and will publish them in this blog over the coming weeks. 

Using 'any internet device' behind the wheel

The new legislation doesn’t just apply to mobile phones but also to “any internet device”, basically any phone, tablet, computer or other device which is able to access the internet.

Police have reported an increasing number of drivers caught texting, using apps like Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram and even live-streaming while behind the wheel of a car.

The penalties for such an offence are the same as those for anyone caught using their phone while driving: that means an instant six penalty points on your licence and a £200 fine.

It’s important to note that this also counts when the driver is sitting stationary on the road, for example while stopped at a junction or at traffic lights. It’s only legal to use your phone or device when you’re safely parked off the road, never while on it.

Kia Sportage firmly in the Top 10!!

• Kia Sportage in the top ten best sellers with 3,155 units
• Kia posts total sales of 7,155 in July 2017
• Picanto and cee’d also performing well at Drayton Motors and across the UK

In a month where the UK car market was down 9.3 per cent, Kia Motors (UK) Ltd. posted another successful month of sales with the Kia Sportage, available from Drayton Motors dealership Swineshead, Boston contributing 3,155 units, putting it firmly in the top ten best sellers in the UK.

Kia’s total sales topped 7,155 in July with Sportage taking the top spot, helped by the recently introduced all-new Picanto which sold nearly 1,000 units in July alone, and cee’d which continues to be a favourite with business and retail customers.

Kia’s July sales brings the year to date figure to 57,805, over 4,000 (4,045) units more than at the same time in 2016. It also sees Kia’s market share increase to 3.7 per cent.

Motoring laws update reminder: Using mobile phones behind the wheel

Motoring laws are constantly evolving to help keep us safer on the UK's roads. We've lined up a series of reminders for you and will publish them in this blog over the coming weeks. 

Here's the first one- Using mobile phones behind the wheel- as of March 1st:

Due to the amount of motorists caught by police using mobile phones behind the wheel of their cars, officials have been forced to introduce much heftier penalties in order to deter would-be lawbreakers.

The new legislation means that anyone caught using a mobile phone while behind the wheel of a car will receive a MINIMUM of six penalty points and a £200 fine, which is exactly double the previous penalty of three points and a £100 fine.

As well as that, drivers will no longer be given the opportunity to complete a National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) course as an alternative to receiving points on their licences.

Finally, new drivers who passed their tests within the past two years, now also run the risk of having their licence revoked upon their first offence, if they’re found guilty of using a phone while driving.

• The all-new Kia Stonic is an eye-catching and confident compact crossover, and is set to become an important conquest model for Kia in one of Europe’s newest and fastest-growing vehicle segments. 

The B-SUV segment currently accounts for 1.1 million new car sales in Europe each year – around seven per cent of the market – and is forecast to expand to more than two million annual sales by 2020. 

Michael Cole, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe, comments: “The Kia Stonic will be one of the most compelling new cars in this rapidly-expanding class, backed by Kia’s unique warranty, and the brand’s reputation for reliability, quality and contemporary design. As the segment expands, the Stonic looks set to become one of our best-selling cars.” 

 “By volume, the B-SUV market is expected to overtake the C-SUV segment by 2020, when more than one in ten new cars sold in Europe will be from the Stonic’s segment. The B-SUV segment attracts buyers from across the spectrum, with 21 per cent of all customers upsizing from a supermini, and another 15 per cent downsizing from their family hatchbacks. Cars like the Stonic also appeal to those looking to replace their compact MPVs.” 

The design of the car is one of the brand’s most striking to date, yet it is immediately recognisable as a Kia thanks to key signature design elements, such as the ‘tiger-nose’ grille. Designed in Europe, in collaboration with Kia’s Korean design studio, the body blends sharp horizontal feature lines with softer sculpted surfaces. Induviduality is important to many customers in the B-SUV segment, and the Stonic’s ‘Targa’-style roof enables buyers to choose a two-tone paint finish, inspired by the design of the 2013 Kia Provo concept. It will be available in Europe with up to 20 two-tone colour combinations, with a choice of up to five distinctive colours for the roof. 

A range of lightweight, downsized, turbocharged petrol and diesel engines are available, each paired with a manual transmission, maximising driver engagement and efficiency. Buyers have the choice of Kia’s lightweight 1.0-litre T-GDI (turbocharged gasoline direct injection) engine, producing 120 ps, as well as 1.25- or 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated MPI (multi-point injection) petrol engines. An efficient 1.6-litre diesel engine completes the range, offering the lowest emissions in the line-up. 

The car’s European-tuned steering and suspension are designed to offer an exciting drive, with immediate handling responses and a stable ride. The car is fitted as standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), ensuring the front-wheel drive Stonic remains enjoyable and confidence-inspiring to drive in all conditions. Specific functions of VSM include Torque Vectoring by Braking, Straight Line Stability, and Cornering Brake Control.

 The Stonic’s European-designed cabin places technology and ergonomics at its heart, offering buyers as much potential for individuality as the exterior with a range of vivid colour packs for buyers to choose from. One of the smartest cars in its class, it provides owners infotainment technologies designed to enhance safety, comfort and convenience. The car gets Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ as standard, bringing seamless smartphone functionality to the touchscreen infotainment system. Like other Kia models, it is available with a broad range of technologies to enhance comfort and convenience, including heated front seats, cruise control and keyless entry. 

Within its compact exterior dimensions, the Stonic’s smart packaging maximises interior space for all occupants. The car offers class-leading shoulder room and generous leg- and head-room, while the versatile 352-litre (VDA) boot has a two-step boot floor. 

The car is built on a strong, safe and lightweight platform and bodyshell, with Advanced High Strength Steel accounting for 51 per cent of materials used. The body ensures driving confidence, passenger comfort and refinement in all conditions. Buyers can choose from a selection of Kia’s DRiVE WISE Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to further enhance active safety. These technologies include Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition and Forward Collision Alert; Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert; and Lane Departure Warning System. Backed by a new fusion camera system, Stonic offers High Beam Assist and Driver Attention Warning to further satisfy the safety needs of customers.

Kia has received yet more recognition and won a tightly contested award in this years’ Diesel Car and Eco Car Awards, with the all-new Kia Niro hybrid crossover winning best hybrid vehicle and the Kia cee’d and Sportage models coming well within the top 50 cars available in the UK, concluded by the panel of judges of Diesel Car and Eco Car – all of which models are available at Drayton Motors in Swineshead, near Boston, Lincolnshire.

The judges awarded the model with an overall place of 38 and were impressed by the vehicle’s efficiency and customer-friendly styling and practicality.

The Geneva Motor Show 2017!

Roll up, Roll up, it's that time of year again! Yesterday saw the Geneva Motor Show once again and Kia certainly did not disappoint.

It may surprise you to know that it takes a lot to glue me to my twitter feed all day, the Brexit vote, the US Presidential Election, and seemingly now, the Geneva Motor Show too! Obviously I was keen to see what's in store for Kia over the next 12 months, but I'm not afraid to say that I was also excited to see what we'd be competing against too.

The Niro and Optima were there in all their glory, showing off our sleek hybrid offerings. Having recently seen my first Optima Sportswagon in the flesh recently, I can personally attest that they are a mean looking beast. It instantly turned my head and although I normally opt for smaller models, even I wouldn't kick it out off my driveway!

Of course the fun and funky new Picanto stole the show, showing that it is possible to be angelic and aggressive all at the same time (who knew?!). The new Picanto GT looks funky but I bet it's functional too, whilst all the while turning heads wherever you go.

As expected, the Stinger took centre stage. Imposing and impressive, I personally cannot wait for the Stinger to arrive later in the year. It reminds me very much of a top of the range Audi (unsurprising given who designed it) but with Kia's functionality and new found confidence. You can tell just from the picture's that this is going to be an absolute beast and I reckon it'll be a bit of a game changer for Kia. Watch this space come Q4!

The NU17 Reg is coming...

Ah February, the anticipation of the Spring and Summer soon to come is rife in the air, but here at Drayton Motors we're all equally as excited about something else that happens every March too... The new registration!


There's nothing quite like that first day of March, spotting who has picked up their brand new car that day and seeing the first 17 registration on the road. It's a buzz that you may only feel if you have an interest in cars but it's one that never fails to present itself to us come this time of year. I personally have been into cars from a young age, I can still remember September 2010 and eagerly seeing what the number plates would change to (I was only 17 so wasn't yet working in a dealership!) and even during my year off to have a baby, I still relished that first day of a new plate change to spot a brand new car.

Test Driving the All New Kia Rio with Lincs FM!

On a bleary Friday in January we were invited over to the Lincs FM HQ in Lincoln to show them the new and improved Kia Rio. After hours of getting the perfect shot, seeing John Marshall in some rather skimpy shorts and rerunning lines to get them just right, we're rather chuffed with the end result! The All-New Kia Rio offers an impressive specification even from entry level, starting from £11,995 it comes equipped with Bluetooth, Hill-Start Assist Control and Steering Wheel Mounted Controls all as standard. Moving up to the level "2" (the one featured in the video), you gain Alloy Wheels, a 5" colour display and even a reversing camera! A top-of-the-range Level 3 boasts larger, 16" alloy wheels, automatic air-con, leather upholstery, a 7" touchscreen sat nav plus heated front seats and steering wheel and rain sensing front wipers, what more could you need?! There's a selection of 7 different colours to choose from and of course they all come with Kia's 7 year/100,000 mile warranty as standard.

Kia, as always, are offering a range of petrol and diesel engines too, ranging from 76bhp right up to 118bhp when you purchase their First Edition Model. They can come in automatic or manual meaning that you'll be positively spoilt for choice.

The design itself features Kia's signature tiger-nose grille and has the new U-Shaped LED Signature daytime running lights to really catch people's eye when you're out and about! Personally, I think that the upgrade in design is subtle but effective. I've heard a few comments that it looks exactly the same but I tend to disagree once you've really looked at the car. It's bigger, for starters, making it a practical option for small families without having to go up to a Cee'd-type car just to fit everything in. It also feels really safe, which isn't surprising with it's 5* Euro NCap rating, compared to others in it's class it feels sturdier, more substantial and an all-round better option than many others of a similar size.

It's our 4th Birthday!

Four years ago today (Feb 15th, 2013) We took over the ownership of Drayton Motors. A lot has happened since then, let's have a look and see..


Site expansion

We've expanded the site by a massive 50%! We now have over 100 used cars, showing a huge selection of used Kia alongside a wide range of other makes and models. This, together with our two showrooms containing brand new Kia cars means Drayton Motors customers now have even more choice.
