Following on from a successful 2017 which saw over 93,200 models sold, and four new model launches, Kia has received yet more good news to celebrate – winning two awards at the 40th anniversary What Car? Awards, held in London.

Impressing the What Car? judges and winning ‘Best City Car’ was the all-new Kia Picanto. Launched in April 2017, the third generation A-segment Picanto has huge appeal for customers – cutting-edge in-car technology such as Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smart phone integration and wireless smartphone charging, a bold new design both inside and out, as well as a high level of safety features.

Now cementing that good news for this ground-breaking product is another What Car? award win, with  ‘Best Executive Car for more than £35,000’ for the Stinger. KIA STINGER WINS BEST PERFORMANCE CAR IN 2018 UK COTY AWARDS

Following a successful introduction to the UK last year, the Kia Stinger has been awarded ‘Best Performance Car’ in the UK Car of the Year Awards 2018.

Evaluated and compared by a well-respected panel of UK journalists, the Stinger came top of its class, fighting off stiff competition in a segment normally associated with more premium brands. The Stinger impressed judges with its striking styling, excellent handling, high levels of equipment and appealing value for money.

Commenting on the Stinger win, Paul Barker – UK COTY judge, said: “A brave move by Kia to produce a great-looking grand tourer and an interesting addition to the sector. The 3.3-litre petrol engine is an absolute stormer.”

Echoing Paul’s comments was UK COTY judge Alex Grant, “The Stinger is a sign of how far Kia has come in the last decade; a genuine rival to the compact executive sports saloon, with a competitive choice of engines and striking styling. The accessibility makes it the best in this class.”

Introduced to the UK media in November 2017, the Kia Stinger encapsulated the company’s slogan of ‘The Power to Surprise’ boasting a twin-turbo V6 with the capability to launch the five-seater gran turismo from 0-60pmh in a time of 4.7 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating Kia ever.

Kia Motors (UK) Ltd. is holding its SUV event for the second year in-a-row at Drayton Motors. The event, running until the end of January, will see all SUVs purchased in January 2018 and registered by 31 March 2018 receive Kia Care-3, a convenient service package free of charge. 

Customers will receive the first three services for free with the Care-3 package, normally priced from £199 – model dependent. All work is carried out by Kia trained technicians across the whole dealer network and Authorised Repairers. Like the industry-leading seven-year/100,000 mile warranty, Care-3 can be passed on if the car is sold before they expire. 

In 2017, Kia saw the addition of two new SUVs to the continuously growing model line-up - the All-New Niro PHEV and All-New Stonic. The New Sorento was also unveiled, and is now for sale at Drayton Motors. All of these models, plus Sportage, Soul, Soul EV and Niro, are included in this offer and available across Kia’s 191-strong dealer network. Kia Motors (UK) Ltd’s flagship SUV, the stylish seven-seat Sorento, has a subtly sportier look for 2018 with the introduction of ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ variants and the availability of a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. Pricing for the range starts at £28,995, with the ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ versions available at Drayton Motors for £36,495 and £41,995 respectively.

The eight-speed auto replaces the previous six-speed unit and is offered in four of the seven Sorento models. It is standard with ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ and optional with ‘KX-2’ and ‘KX-3’ versions.

Economy with the new auto gearbox is improved compared with the previous automatic, while CO2 emissions are also cut. The eight-speed gearbox was designed and engineered in-house and offers up to five different shift and throttle programmes, accessed through the Sorento's electronic Drive Mode Select. Drivers can leave the car to shift for itself, or change gears with steering wheel-mounted paddles in ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’.

All versions are available at Drayton Motors and are seven-seat SUVs which are able to drive all four wheels through an intelligent four-wheel-drive system. Depending on the model, the Sorento features state-of-the-art safety and convenience technologies, including Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Around View Monitoring, Driver Alert Warning and Speed Limit Information Function. 

The stylish interior

The Sorento also features a Dynamax intelligent electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system from Magna Powertrain.  It continuously monitors driving conditions and anticipates when all-wheel drive will be needed, whereas other systems react only to changing conditions.  With Dynamax, the Sorento is always in the correct drive mode for the prevailing circumstances.

‘KX-1’, ‘KX-2’ and ‘KX-3’ versions remain unchanged, save for the introduction of Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ integration into the infotainment system. Both allow access to music, navigation and hands-free calls and texts when linked with a smartphone. All versions have a digital DAB radio compatible with MP3 players and Bluetooth with music streaming.

As Kia’s flagship SUV in the UK, the Sorento has executive-class space and versatility to match its executive-class style, quality and refinement. The car immediately began reaping design awards in 2015. It received the prestigious IF Design Award in Germany, with the international jury recognising not only its aesthetics but also its finish, innovation, environmental impact and safety. The Sorento thus became the seventh Kia to receive an IF Design Award.   

All models have Kia's Intelligent Stop & Go (ISG) engine stop/start system to ensure that no fuel is used and no emissions are released when the car comes to a halt. This helps to improve both air quality and noise levels in urban areas. 

All versions have Trailer Stability Assist to make towing safer and continuously monitors vehicle stability, gently applying some front braking force to the relevant side of the vehicle if it detects a potential loss of control. The Sorento has been awarded five stars in Euro NCAP safety tests, and is available now at Drayton Motors.

The standard body colour is Rich Espresso, but all versions can also be ordered in Midnight Black, Platinum Silver and Graphite, while all but the entry-level ‘KX-1’ offer White Pearl and Gravity Blue paint finishes.

All-new Kia Stonic compact crossovers, fitted with Kia’s Advanced Driving Assistance Pack,* have been awarded the highest-possible collision safety rating by Euro NCAP.

For models fitted with Kia’s Advanced Driving Assistance Pack, the independent safety testing organisation awarded the Stonic 93 per cent for adult protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 71 per cent for pedestrian protection, and 59 per cent in the ‘Safety Assist’ category.

The score was underpinned by the vehicle’s Advanced High Strength Steel bodyshell, paired with standard-fit airbags and a wide array of passive and high-tech active safety features.

Advanced Driver Assistance technologies available include: Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition; Lane Departure Warning System with Driver Attention Warning and High Beam Assist. The Stonic is equipped as standard with Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
